A rather plain-looking turtle, Western Pond Turtles are a drab gray/brown. In southern California populations have more pronounced yellow markings on the neck and are referred to as Southwestern Pond Turtles, while in our area we have Northwestern Pond Turtles.

Habitat:

These turtles are found in western Oregon and Washington. They have suffered with the introduction of Bullfrogs in the Puget Sound and Willamette Valley.

While this turtle is becoming more scarce in the valleys and lowlands, it still is found in relatively healthy numbers in southwestern Oregon and northwestern California.
