Yellow-breasted Apalis

Apalis flavida

Description:

A small bird, by itself, didn't make any calls. It looks a lot like a Karoo Eremomela except the eye is red rather than yellow and those birds aren't found in this part of South Africa.

Thanks Malcolm, I agree. Didn't have a chance to see the front, which would have made ID a lot easier. Thanks for the identification :)

Pity there is not a front view, from this angle the yellow breast patch can only just be seen at its extremity, but I'm fairly certain its Yellow-breasted Apalis, Apalis flavida.

It looks like it could be a tailorbird, but aren't they Asian? They don't seem to be common in South Africa.

I can't find a matching one with the grey head and red eye..
