Great-crested grebe

Description:

Great-crested grebes have beautiful head plumage during courtship and breeding season. Their young look very different with zebra-type striping on their heads. The grebes usually have one or two offspring.

Habitat:

A ditch along a road running beside a dike.

Notes:

These are one of my favorite bird species. I first saw them in Switzerland in 2012 when they were doing a courtship dance. Now, six years later, I got to see how they tend their young. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/985...
