Northern cardinal

Cardinalis cardinalis

Description:

Birds carry ticks that spread diseases to humans after they have fed on intermediate hosts such as rodents and mammals. There are also ticks that infect birds (Ixodes brunneus); they can cause paralysis and the birds then may die if the tick is not removed. So far, it seems that the birds in this vicinity are carrying other ticks.
