cattle egret

Bubulcus ibis

Description:

A short white heron-like bird with long yellow legs and a long neck, completely white feathers.

Habitat:

Grasslands near water, etc.

Notes:

Walking by a dumpster in Kaneohe, I first noticed these birds. Maybe they were eating insects near the garbage, but they were like crows. They are much smaller than the Great Egret, but otherwise look similar, except that the Great Egret is seen only wading in water.
