Black Assassin Bug

Apiomerus longispinis

Description:

The poor weevil put up a hell of a fight and the bug was struggling to get it into a position where it could strike. Right at the tip of the twig, it couldn't get a good grip with its hind legs. Eventually, it managed to maneuver the weevil further down and stabbed it between the abdominal segments. The bug was about 18mm long, glossy black and covered in hairs.

Habitat:

Found in 'El Cimatario', a national park in semi-arid area just outside the city. The rainy season is now in full swing and many animals are venturing out.
