Acer campestre
A medium-sized tree with a bushy, rounded head which can grow 15m tall in good conditions though often stays smaller. The small leaves are of typical maple shape, though more rounded than some in the Acer family. The autumn colour is a striking butter-yellow. When young, bark has a curious cork-like appearance though as the tree matures this disappears. The shoots are brown, with dark brown winter buds. The flowers are produced in spring at the same time as the leaves open, yellow-green, in erect clusters 4–6 centimetres across, and are insect-pollinated. The fruit is a samara with two winged achenes aligned at 180°, each achene is 8–10 millimetres wide, flat, with a 2 centimetres wing.
Open deciduous woods, hedgerows and scrub, usually on basic soils.
Spotted in rural area of Deventer, Holland. (sources:see reference)
