Northern Redbelly snake

Storeria occipitomaculata occipitomaculata

Description:

very small snake, brick red belly, three yellow spots behind the head

Habitat:

trail

Notes:

This little snake was sunning on the trail when we encountered it. I don't normally handle snakes but this one was so small I couldn't resist picking it up and getting a better look at it. After a few photos I put it down safely.

Thanks J and Gilma. If you love snakes, this is the one to start with! Completely harmless and easy to handle.

Cutest thing I've ever seen.
As much as I love snakes, I could not get myself to do that!! even if it is a miniature one!
