Galls on leaves created by small parasitic bugs. The galls looks like thorns for camouflage and also possibly to discouraged animals from eating it.
These parasites live in host plants inside galls they form in leaves, Bukit Gemuk (Fat Hill), Tawau, Sabah.

I think galls are a great story. Many don't consider the relationship is highly species critical for both plant and animal. I often ponder over just how those relationships might have developed. And then there's the fact that many life forms have developed galls.. insects, arachnids, fungi.. These ones look very similar to a scale-eucalyptus relationship here called Tanycelis ... http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/806...
These 2 are the only photographs I took.
It is a type of forest plant without bearing any fruits or flowers at that time.
I am not sure what species it is but I will try to photograph the whole plant
for identification. Sorry, I do not know much about galls.
possibly male galls..nice ! do you have a shot of the underside of the leaves. Could it be a Syzygium sp of plant/tree ?
Nice one Chun. These look like male galls. Were there any larger 'lumps' nearby on this plant? Do you know exactly the plant species?
