bark cockroach -male

Laxta granicollis

Description:

A reddish brown cockroach about 25mm long. The wings had a beautiful venation. The thoracic "shield" had a semi-lunar anterior margin which was slightly paler in colour.

Habitat:

Spotted among wooden fence sleepers. Native to Australia

Notes:

A very attractive cockroach ! These cockroaches live in colonies and feed on wood fibre. The females are wingless and nymphs look like trilobites. Here is a female of the species spotted by martinl: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/114...

Rather handsome for a cockroach. And a surprising difference in the sexes.
