Red-eared Slider

Trachemys scripta elegans

Description:

Turtle with a small, red stripe around their ears. This turtle was approximately 6-8 inches long.

Habitat:

This turtle is a popular pet species, and is not native to Connecticut. People often release them near ponds, which causes problems for native species, such as the painted turtle. Red-eared Sliders are aggressive and strong, and they compete with native species for habitat, food, and nesting sites.
