Corn Snake

Pantherophis guttatus

Description:

Approximately 3 feet long. Muted orange with dark orange rectangular pattern running the length of the snake. The underside is a perfect checkerboard of black and white (not pictured).

Habitat:

Often found near grain stores where they feed on rats and mice. This one was found crawling across my parents yard heading into a pine forest.

Notes:

This is supposed to be a common snake in our area, but I have only seen three now in four years. I'm excited to see a larger young adult and hope that more will come now that I'm here to make sure they are not mistaken for copperheads.
