White Flank Black Braconid Wasp

Callibracon limbatus

Description:

The wasp has an orange head, black thorax and black abdomen with white patterns on flank. The wings are tinted black in colour. 20mm body length

Habitat:

Braconid wasps live in urban areas, forests,woodlands and wetland - this specimen was seen and photographed on a window of my house.

Notes:

Closely related to the Ichneumonid wasps and this species is a parasitoid of Longicorn beetle larvae. The ovipositor can be seen clearly in the photograph.
