Rainbow Lorikeets

Trichoglossus haematodus

Description:

30 cm from beak to tail. Very colorful, very gregarious. These birds eat mostly liquid-y foods like honey, nectar, very soft fruit.

Habitat:

Australia and surrounding areas (New Zealand, Vanuatu, Tasmania, Malaysia, etc.)

Notes:

These were at the feeding aviary in Lowry Park Zoo. A dozen or so would land on you if you held little cups of honey-based food. Hannah (my then-6-year-old daughter) loved it. (Who am I kidding... so did I....!)
