Orthetrum sabina
This wide-ranging species (southeastern Europe and North Africa to Japan and south to Australia and Micronesia) occupies a broad range of slow flowing and still water habitats, from ponds to wet rice fields and marshes. It is very tolerant of disturbance.
Spotted on "mother-in-law's tongue" (Sansevieria trifasciata) in a large semi-urban yard and garden adjacent to a disturbed patch of remnant forest.
The dragonfly has prey in its mouth in the last photograph. This species is not uncommon at this location. There is no standing water but area is often moist due to tropical climate.
