Robber Fly

Asilidae

Description:

Strange looking bug, 1 inch and a half long, could not make out what it was, it flew away as fast as it came. I would have liked more pictures and a few close-ups!

Habitat:

The genera Megapodinae are unique to the Neotropical region. Few species occur in woodland areas, and those that do tend to aggregate along the edges, near grasslands.

Notes:

Robber flies have voracious appetites and feed on a vast array of other arthropods, which may help to maintain a healthy balance between insect populations in various habitats.

Yea It's one of the common names, I've heard it called bee killer as well. Those front spiny legs are for catching prey at high speeds.

Thank you, mrurgo11, Is that for real? the name?
