Canada geese

Branta canadensis

Description:

Canada geese are very familiar birds in the Washington, DC, and Maryland area. Now is the time of year to see them with their babies (goslings). Here is a couple with seven goslings. You can see them high in the sky in their V-shape formation and hear their honking calls. We have two types of geese in this area, migrating and resident geese.

Habitat:

Canada geese nest in areas that are surrounded by or close to water. This pair of canada geese with their goslings were spotted in a small pond at Kinder Farm Park, Anne Arundel County, Millersville, Maryland.
