Rough Greensnake

Opheodrys aestivus

Description:

Lime green snake with yellowish-white belly

Habitat:

Wooded greenway in bottomland forest.

Notes:

This once common species is getting rare to find. They feed primarily upon arthropods. The use of insecticides, habitat loss, habitat fragmentation and disease are likely contributing to their decline in population. This one appeared to have a bacterial or fungal infection.
