white crested helmet shrike

Prionops plumatus

Description:

Comical birds in both looks and behavior. They travel is groups, chatter noisily to each other as they hunt, and gradually they accepted my presence and that of my camera, allowing me a few good shots. The last shot shows one caught a grasshopper

Habitat:

Sable sands lodge

Notes:

My husband was jealous. We'd just taken a long bus trip to our new lodge, and a short en route game drive. He opted to lie down for a nap and I lit out around our lodge with the camera. I told him that I'd sleep when I'm dead... or home

In many ways this was my favorite spotting in Zimbabwe. Even among the lion that challenged our right to pass on the road, the many jackels, and the wonderful saddle bill storks and crowned cranes.
