Melanerpes aurifrons
Both sexes have a gray belly and a black and white barred back. They also both have a large, orange patch on the back of the head and a small gold patch at the base of the bill, then the male is distinguished from the female by also have a bright red patch on the top of the head. Male is photos 1-4 and female is photos 5-6.

This was at a feeding station at a state park so I'm not sure what they put in it. When I make suet I put peanut butter, suet, flour, seed, and oats. This one is kind of pink though so they do something a little different!
Cool pictures, what is he bait?, I just took a picture of one of this beautiful birds feeding on a coconut.
great spotting ashley! i've never seen one of these before, but we get red-bellied woodpeckers, which are similar, but lack the checkered wing pattern and gold spot
