Xanthoria elegans
Small crustose lichen (ca. 2-3 cm wide) although the thallus can be described as foliose, having the aspect of leaves. Orange to red colored thallus at the sides with orange-red apotecia in the center of the lichen. It was one of the first lichens to be used for the rock-face dating method known as lichenometry.
