Rain Beetle

Pleocomidae

Description:

Really interesting little beetle. The black ones (I assume males) were flying everywhere and I was lucky enough to see where one landed and he seemed to get right to work on the female. After about 3 minutes, he took flight again. The brown one is about an inch long, the black one is just over half that, he also has a fuzzy underside as you can see. Brown ones I don't think fly, all of what we saw were the black ones flying around. Doug fir trees, mossy ground, low lying hills.
