Mute Swan

Cygnus olor

Description:

Oh so lovely, but unfortunately not a native species here. I suspect this swan has been placed here deliberately (it's the only swan at "Swan Lake") rather than an uninvited pest. Although not listed in GA, it listed as an invasive species in Florida.

Habitat:

Native to northern and central Eurasia, the Mute Swan was introduced into North America to grace the ponds of parks and estates. Escaped individuals have established breeding populations in several areas (particularly the Great Lakes region) where their aggressive behavior threatens native waterfowl.

Notes:

Spotted at Swan Lake near Berry College in Rome, GA
