Chamaeleo chamaeleon
The Chameleon is an introduced species (alien species) that has now established it's self and is now commonly seen in various habitats such as gardens, maquis, steppes and garrigue. Their total length is about 30 cm of which nearly half is the tail. The Mediterranean species which is found in many parts of Southern Europe and North Africa, can be distinguished form other Chameleons by their crest or casque found on the top of their head that curves backwards and has a lobe on either side of the head. the colour on this species varies with their mood or body temperature rather than for camouflage. The eggs are laid in a shallow pit dug in the ground.
Found on a tree near a pond.
