I have several images of this larva in my yard and I havn't been able to ID it.....until now ! Wonderful. Thanks so much for the ID ! I do see this moth in my yard fairly often.
Thanks for the quick and spot-on ID, "kunzah!" And thanks for the comments, Alice and Travis. The following quote from Wikipedia relates to your insightful commentary: "The larvae overwinter and mature in the spring and early summer. The larvae feed on Eupatorium, Oak, Peach and *Willow*."
Do you know the species of willow pictured? Sometimes it is possible to narrow the list of possible catepillars by their respective host species. For example, Salix humilis is host to the the Green Comma and S. nigra is a host for Mourning Cloaks.
