A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
This one's slightly bigger than a basket ball. This one has its opening near the base (at the top),usually it's located at the bottom. The detailed work of the hornets' laborious art is better appreciated on the second photo.
On a metal window frame of a transport office in the middle of Gangtok City. Altitude: about 5,500ft.
This ball of a hornet's nest was spotted on this window of a transport office. Used to encounter such sights in the middle of forests when we ran around as children in the forests to play. We'd to be careful not to disturb them. But in the modern times hornets' and bee hives are a common sight as hanging from some tall man-made structures, like this one. Adaptation, the best policy!
