killdeer

Charadrius vociferus

Description:

This is one of the most interesting Shorebirds in our world. It is a shorebird yes but it loves to live in land and way from water from much of it's life. It is even our only two banded plover. You can hear them very clearly as they fly Just listen for a "killdee killdee" sound. They are fast flyers and are very interesting to watch.

Habitat:

In rural and sometimes urban areas away from water but sometimes lives near lakes and ocean coasts.

Notes:

This little guy was bathing in a huge puddle of my aunt's school. I was lucky enough to get several shots and a video of this bird. Killdeer are one of my favorite birds. They are hard to keep up in flight and are not too hard to find in the country.
