Common Buckeye Butterfly

Junonia coenia

Description:

Tan colored butterfly with Eyes on the inner wings.

Habitat:

Spotted in a recently mowed field, and then in my flower bed nectaring on Gooseneck Loosestrife.

Notes:

Please note there are two examples of this species in the photos, with slight variances in the spots and wing damage. Both butterflies were observed within an hour of each other. I was unable to obtain a photo of the underside of their wings.
