Thank you thaptor for the ID and Leuba for the kind words. Also, thanks to my fellow Rangers for the nomination.
Sergio, now I know what a weevil really looks like - great photos ! a little like a miniature Triceratops. Well deserved nomination for SOTW.
Your spotting has been nominated for the Spotting of the Week. The winner will be chosen by the Project Noah Rangers based on a combination of factors including: uniqueness of the shot, status of the organism (for example, rare or endangered), quality of the information provided in the habitat and description sections. There is a subjective element, of course; the spotting with the highest number of Ranger votes is chosen. Congratulations on being nominated!
In the link above, only the rather poor and boring representation of the northern hemisphere is shown.
Group is strongest in S-America and Australia. Yours is the most colourful Mesoptiline I have ever seen, the knobbly surface also is really peculiar.
You found so many interesting looking weevil, thank you for spotting and sharing them.
Thank you Keith2012 and Lauren Zarate. Lauren, it was in a flowerless tree, only green leaves. And yes, it was around 5 m long.
This weevil is wonderful!! Does it match the flowers of the plant it was on? Why else would it be pink and orange? How big is it? Looks about half a centimeter?
I love it.
