Bearded Dragon

Pogona Vitticeps

Description:

Medium sized lizard. Up to 55cm from tip of tail to head. Low, wide body shape. has elongated scales around the rear of the lower jaw and along sides of body. The tail is almost the same length as the head and body. the head is triangular in shape. This one is brown.

Habitat:

Dry bush environments, forests or deserts of central Australia This one was in the Alice Springs Reptile Park

Notes:

Walks with a high gait and can move with considerable speed. The spikes on the jaw and sides of body appear spiky but are actually rubbery and only intended to make the lizard appear unappealing to predators. It can be found in a variety of colours including shades of red, brown and yellow. These colours normally match the dragon's habitat. Generally males have larger heads.
