Syrphid fly larvae X Actinote butterfly caterpillars

Family Syrphidae; Nymphalidae, Actinote sp.

Description:

Actinote butterflies usually lay a large number of eggs in a single place. When they hatch, the caterpillars remain grouped, and start wantonly eating the host plant. They can put down a regular sized shrub in a few days. In the other hand, their number attracts a large amount of predators, like predatory stink bugs, assassin bugs and others. In this case, some syrphid fly larvae was wreaking havoc on a group of first and second instar caterpillars.
