Dog-day Cicada with Exuviae

Neotibicen canicularis

Description:

This species of cicada is highly variable pattern and coloration. This spotting shows the green morph, which typically has a green and black pattern and is less than 2 inches long.

Habitat:

I spotted this cicada on a picnic table in a mixed forest bordering a river and meadow. It was resting a couple inches away from its exuviae, where it must have recently eclosed from. I found numerous other cicadas and exuviae in the area of this one.
