Belding's Ground Squirrel

Urocitellus beldingi oregonus

Description:

Medium small ground squirrel that is found in higher elevations. Short stubby ears and short tails. White around the eyes.

Habitat:

5000 to 12000 ft elevation. These were found in about 5000ft.

Notes:

Though spotted in a natural setting, some like California Ground Squirrels adapted to urban life. The first image were found along road side along farm and ranch lands at the foothills of mountain ranges. Dodging them as you drive down the roads. The second image was taken in the grassy landscape of our hotel. Holes were dug near the fence line and they would feed in the open and run back to the holes when they feel threatened.
