Butorides virescens
This Heron is a deep blue grey with slight green on it's wings, it has a brown throat, and yellow around the eyes. It is well blended in with it's environment.
Wetland areas and places out of human contact.
This big fella was just walking around the pond near my aunt's school. I have seen about five other species. Herons are in the family of birds known as Shorebirds but they are not cranes. Cranes fly with necks extended and herons don't they put there neck in an s formation as they take to the air. The rains in recent days had turned much of the schoolyard to swampland. it was hard to navigate but the birds and mess of Tadpoles and other wildlife liked it. This heron looked like he got startled and puffed up the feathers on top of his head to make himself look bigger. There was a loud noise and it startled me as well as him. the School isn't totally isolated from civilization. he soon flew off into a tree unreachable by my camera's zoom power.
