You're welcome, Albert

Thanks, @Ashley & @Scott for your efforts to ID this Snake.
I would accepts it to be Psammodynastes pulverulentus - Common Asian Mock Viper.
The pictures from the link Scott posted is Danum Valley which is not too far away from Tawau.

I don't have it but "A Field Guide to the Snakes of Borneo" by Stuebing et al would seem to be the guide to look for. The added photos demonstrate the penchant of Psammodynastes pulverulentus to change the shape of its pupils (See http://i.imgur.com/Ar1riZX.jpg ). The Reptile Database ( http://reptile-database.reptarium.cz/spe... ) lists distribution including "East Malaysia" (=Borneo).

I had a herper in Malaysia look at this, and he says Psammodynastes pulverulentus. That's what I kept getting to when I would try to ID it, but I didn't see range maps that included it in range for you. Do you have any field guides? I do get conflicting ranges a lot when looking at Asian species, just doesn't seem like there are many good online guides out there. Not sure if there are any better books?

Thanks, @Scott.
I added a few more pics, although quite similar angle. Hope this helps.
Wasn't able to get variety of angles of it cos there was another leaf/branch above it.

Well I did look at this Ashley and Albert. I was leaning toward a mock viper too. I just couldn't tell if the scales on the head supported that ID.

Thanks, @Ashley, was hoping you could help with the ID :D
But I guess this one is not venomous, that was what Gilma was asking.

Albert, I was trying to ignore this one, but since you called me out on it, I had to at least try! I've spent the past two hours trying to figure it out, and best I can do so far is genus Psammodynastes. Not sure that is right since can't match a species in range with it, but best I can do for now. I hope Scott will see this, he is better with Asian stuff than I am!

Thanks, @Gilma.
Not sure if its venomous or not since am not familiar what species it is.
But I think unlikely, it was very docile.
Maybe after Ashley helped with the ID, will be able to tell if its venomous or not.

Beautiful!! AlbertKang, but it looks dangerous to me....as in... very venomous...
