Northern Pearly Eye

Lethe anthedon

Description:

A brown and beige butterfly with numerous, darker spots or circles on its wings and a slight half-crescent moon mark on the top tip of both wings

Habitat:

On plants growing alongside a mowed trail, surrounded by woods and a fresh water lake (Lake Emma)

Notes:

I frequently find these brown-colored butterflies in or near the woods but, while similar in coloring, they frequently have different markings on their wings so am not sure if they're the same species or not.

Thank you sooo much, DanielePralong!! So the larval stage overwinters here too, like the Wood Satyrs? It gets so cold here in the winter, that's just amazing to me. :-)))
