Arizona Sister

Adelpha eulalia

Description:

A very colorful distinct butterfly frequently spotted in the Mt Charleston and Red Rock areas west of Las Vegas. According to several sources, there are two similar species in this area...California Sister (Adelpha californica), and the captioned Arizona Sister (Adelpha eulalia). It is not clear how they are distinguished...and depending upon references, either or both can be found in Nevada. The area where these are spotted is 15 miles from Arizona, and 30 miles from California...I elected Arizona Sister, subject to anyone's further comment.

Habitat:

Desert scrub/scrub oak up into conifer forest at 9,000'.
