Carpenterworm Moth

Prionoxystus Robiniae

Description:

Huge gray moth the size of my thumb. (About an inch and a half or just an inch I don't know for sure) Looks like a stray piece of bark. It is definitely a female because of how big and HEAVY it was. It couldn't fly probably because of the fact that it has a lot of eggs to lay. Tickled like crazy when it stayed in one spot on my hand and started VIBRATING. Oh man did it tickle. No idea what the heck it is. The under-wings were as uncolorful as the over-wings.

Habitat:

Rock wall on front of house

Notes:

Looks like a piece of bark when barely noticed. HUGE.

Thanks! I figured it was a female due to extremely large abdomen.

These big moths are not good fliers from what I have experienced. This one is a female. The males are slightly smaller and have yellow on the hindwings.
