Fisher

Martes pennanti

Notes:

I always thought of Fishers as pure carnivores, but this one was feeding on the birdseed under my feeder for almost 10 minutes tonight.

Alice I think you're right. The weather has been below normal for quite a while and there's almost 3 feet of snow on the ground. Finding food must be tough.

I think the animals get desperate when the cold goes so long and will eat almost anything, a little like my possum.

Thanks for all the nice comments and thanks Karen for choosing this Fisher as SOTD. There are so many wonderful photos from all over the world posted on Project Noah every day that are just as worthy to be chosen SOTD.

Such a cute animal. I never saw one before. I grew up on Mt. Diablo and if they are there I never got to see one!

Congrats Tom, your unusual visitor is Spotting of the Day!

The fisher is a forest-dwelling member of the weasel family native to the boreal forests of Canada and the northern United States.
