American black bear

Ursus americanus

Description:

A large black bear wearing a collar with a gps receiver. These receivers help biologist not only monitor the bears but determine important data such as den location and of course location at any given time and routes taken. My guess is this is a nuisance bear for the locals which has prompted the monitoring.

Habitat:

Spotted along a treeline in the town of Snoqualmie, Wa. This town sits in prime Black bear territory at foothills of the Cascade mountains. The bear when I spotted it was only a 200 meters from backyards to new homes.

Notes:

Please read the article in the reference for more info on collared bears.
