Wattled Ibis

Bostrychia carunculata

Description:

A large, some 80 cm long, dark ibis, with diagnostic white patches on shoulders. Not well shown on the photo, it has a small bare-skin wattles under the bill - bill is broad, with a rather sharp tip. Another distinguishing features are white eyes and crest.

Habitat:

Swampy forest surrounding the lake Awassa, at outskirts of the town Awassa.

Notes:

Wattled ibis is another endemic species of Abyssinian highlands, where is common. It nests on cliffs, and stay close to water.
