Actias luna
Large Giant Silkworm moth in the Saturniidae family with apple green wings marked with elliptical eyespots. Hind wing is dramatically long and slightly twisted. Smaller moth is Little White Lichen moth Clemensia albata
Woodland, front porch light
When I first spotted this beautiful male Luna moth at my porch light he had a Little White Lichen moth on his wing. I think the little lichen moth was just a bit confused, mistaking all that green for a lichen. Host plants for Luna moth are deciduous trees including alder, beech, cherry, hazelnut, hickory and willow. Host plant for the Little White Lichen moth is lichens.

And the small moth on its left wing lets you gage how big the Luna moth is
Thanks Choc, yes the Luna is one of my favorites. I'm lucky to have these moths come to my porch light every year.
Such a beautiful moth
Thank you J. So nice to be here.
Great spotting, Diane! Nice to have another moth-er in my mission!
Thank you Carlos. Yes the smaller moth helps show just how huge the Luna moth is.
