Great Spangled Fritillary

Speyeria Cybele

Description:

Kept orbiting me landing on me and orbiting me again. I was able to catch it off of a pink-flowered milkweed. Large, beautiful butterfly and kept licking my hand while on me. At one point I had two of them fighting over me. I had to catch it multiple times because it kept flying away. It's so easy to pick them off of the flower you'd think they didn't notice they weren't on the flower anymore. I held three today.

Habitat:

A pink-flowered milkweed which it was sharing with another Great Spangled fritillary.

Notes:

Seemed to like the taste of my hand.
