Scalycap sp.?

Pholiota sp.?

Description:

distinctive smell, I can't remember but it may have been spermatic. Growing from the base of a birch and also seemingly sprouting from the ground a couple of metres away. There's a tiny amount of peeling on the photo of the birch bark. does this mean it is a silver birch and not a downy birch?
