Cymaenes tripunctus
Wingspan 29-32mm. The wings are very dark brown above with a with a chestnut edging along the costa. There are three small sub-apical white spots and two larger ones in the middle of the wing.
Spotted at the Garvan Woodland Gardens.
The range extends from Southern USA and Florida to Brazil and Paraguay. It is also found in the Bahamas, Cuba, Hispaniola, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands and Trinidad. Nectar Plants: Stachytarpheta jamaicensis, Ageratum conyzoides, Antigonon leptopus, Chromolaena odorata. Larval Foodplants: Grasses including Panicum maximum and Saccharum officinarum.
