Dwarf spider

Walckenaeria auranticeps

Description:

A fairly small dwarf spider (family Linyphiidae, subfamily Erigoninae), 2.5mm long. Members of this genus have an interesting comb on the claws of their feet. See the BugGuide reference for a close-up of that.

Habitat:

I found this spider in moss. Like many dwarf spiders, Walckenaeria are often found near the ground in damp places.

Notes:

ID from photo of epigynum, along with close-ups of other features (see reference). As always, the spider was released unharmed afterwards.
