xylocopa confusa
Yellow carpenter bee male defending its territory. Update - name changed from caffra to confusa.
Paddy fields, outskirts of Bandung. Altitude 1000m.
I disturbed this very large yellow carpenter bee as I tried to pass through its territory. It would circle around and then hover menacingly in front of me for a couple of seconds. I guess that I am over my aversion to bees and wasps. The bloom he was defending is seen in the fifth image.
