Greater Scaup

Description:

Smaller then the Lesser Scaup this diving duck. Scaup is scottish for clams or mussels. Males have a blue bill, dark head, neck and chest. Grey pattened back and white flanks. Females reddish to brown head, lighter brown body. The females have white patches around the upper bill to near the eyes. Identifiers of the species is Head color: Greater is green; Lesser is blue Head shape: Greater is rounder; Lesser is taller Bill nail; Greater is wider; lesser is narrow

Habitat:

Lakes. rivers and coastal bays.

Notes:

Spottings of this diving duck was in a enclosed bay estuary.
