Mexican Cactus Fly

Copestylum mexicanum

Habitat:

Larvae that feed in wet decaying prickly pear cactus. Adults are commonly seen feeding on flowers. Found from the southern USA to Central America in gardens, parks, fields, etc.

Notes:

I saw this species once before in the Florida Keys, but had never seen it in my area. I normally go to this park in the mornings and this was late afternoon.
