Red-eared Slider

Trachemys scripta elegans

Description:

The Red-eared Slider has a red stripe behind the eyes (or on the ear as its name implies) the turtle is leafy green, gets slightly darker as the turtle gets older, until it is a very dark green, and then turns a shade between brown and olive green. This one has yellow stripes on the legs, on the face and neck below the eyes.

Habitat:

They stay close to water and eat aquatic plants. They bathe in the sun on top of logs and rocks.

Notes:

I spotted this one peaking its head above water and floating down a stream.
